George celebrates his first EuroPro Tour win
Professional golfer and former flooring contractor, George Woolgar, is celebrating his first EuroPro Tour win at The Buildbase Open which was held at Frilford Heath Golf Club.
George was a keen amateur golfer for many years while working for his father’s flooring company, General Furnishings Co. Ltd in Chesterfield. During this time he regularly attended the popular F. Ball Golf Days, which are held annually at regional venues.
In April 2008, he took the decision to turn professional and over the last three years F. Ball and Co. Ltd. have been one of George’s main sponsors. He is now attached to Chesterfield Golf Club while regularly playing on the EuroPro Tour, European Challenge Tour and some Midland PGA events.
George still maintains a close relationship with F. Ball and still attends F. Ball Golf Days (when time allows!) to offer a ‘golf clinic’ to invited guests prior to the match. This can involve a quick lesson, useful hints and tips or helping guests to practice their techniques and is always enjoyed by everyone at the events.
However, winning The Buildbase Open marks a career highlight for George. After a poor start, he remained confident and came back to force a sudden-death play off, hitting the winning putt to perfection to claim his first EuroPro Tour win.
Commenting after the game, George said: “I have been on the EuroPro Tour for a few years but this is my first win and that has been a target for me. Now I want to go from here and get another win in one of the last five events before the Tour Championships.
F. Ball is one of my main sponsors and in the current climate it is really difficult to find and keep sponsors so I really appreciate their continuing support. I enjoy helping out at the F. Ball Golf Days and it provides me with a great opportunity to give something back to the company.”
David Hibbert, Sales Director at F. Ball, said: “This is a fantastic achievement and on behalf of F. Ball I would like to send my sincere congratulations to George. The time he spends with our guests at Golf Days is always appreciated and we look forward to watching his flourishing career with great interest.”
